Sunday 23rd April is when I take part in my first cycling Sportive. What is a Sportive you may ask, well it’s a mass start (and not cycling carnage apparently) timed distance event. I’ve only entered the 50km (just over 30 miles) event, while the distance is a short training ride in length, event wise it’s something completely new to me. I just hope I don’t fall off!
The Herio is a British cycling registered event that’s very popular and places always fill extremely quickly. The route will take in plenty of lovely Welsh countryside and with a few of killer hills thrown in the mix too! One has a gradient climb of 12%. Fortunately, it’s quite a short climb distance wise.
I will be joined on the day by a few other ladies from the Newport Ride Social group. We’ve been training together regularly for the Velothon in July, and we decided to ride in the Herio as a group and support each other along the way.
